XAVIER APPOINTED DEPUTY CHIEF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER

His Excellency the Governor, Mr. David Pearey after consultation with the Public Service Commission (PSC), has approved the contract appointment of Mr. Rupert Xavier to the post of Deputy Chief Environmental Health Officer, Environmental Health Division.

Mr. Xavier who took up his appointment on May 10, 2010 for a period of two years holds a Diploma for Public Health Inspectors and Diploma in Meat and Other Foods from the West Indies School of Public Health in Jamaica; and a Masters of Public Health, International Health from the Boston University.

Mr. Xavier’s experience includes work as District and Senior Environmental Health Officer, General Manager at the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation; Part-time Lecturer at the Dominica College State and Chief Environmental Health Officer.

As Deputy Chief Environmental Health Officer Mr. Xavier is responsible for coordinating, managing and directing the District Environmental Health activities; assisting the Chief Environmental Officer with development of policies, guidelines, proposed legislation and preparation of the Department’s plans; ensuring that the Public Health Act and Regulations are enforced and formulating and implementing activities for public awareness on Inter-American Water Day, Environment month, Farmers week and other celebrations of significance.
