ULRIC SCATLIFFE NAMED IN QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY HONOURS LIST
Wednesday June 16, 2010
His Excellency the Governor Mr. David Pearey has announced that Chief Scouting Commissioner Mr. Ulric Scatliffe was named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2010 List as a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for outstanding community service in the Territory.
Mr. Scatliffe has been associated with scouting in the Territory for over 50 years and joined the BVI Boy Scout Association in the 1950’s, moving up the ranks from scout, to assistant scouting commissioner, and eventually to his current position as commissioner, a post he has held since 1984.
As an educator trained in design and technology, he has used his knowledge and skills in this field to enrich programmes for scores of scout troops.
Mr. Scatliffe also shared his knowledge with members of his scout organisation, and involved them in activities such as woodwork projects for the home and building pedestrian bridges. He has also been credited with positively impacting the lives of a significant number of young men over the years.
Along with contributing to the scout organisation, Mr. Scatliffe also assisted the technical education programme at the secondary school level while working as a teacher at the former BVI High School.
Governor Pearey expressed his personal congratulations to Mr. Scatliffe for this most deserving honour as a tribute to his benevolence and mentoring of the Territory’s youth.
The Member of the British Empire award is given to persons who have contributed to
the community with outstanding achievement and service.
