In August 1984 the IBC Act became law. Since then, the British Virgin Islands has become the premier choice for domiciling offshore companies.

Companies incorporated under the International Business Companies (IBC) Act are exempted from all forms of taxation in the British Virgin Islands.

Typical companies include: finance companies, investment holding companies, mutual funds, insurance and reinsurance companies, yacht/ship holding companies, employment companies etc.
