BVI BARRISTER TO HEAD UP BVI LONDON OFFICE

Tuesday, August 15 - Government has announced the appointment of Ms. Dawn Smith as Director of the BVI London Office.

As the director, Ms. Smith is responsible for representing the interests of the local Government in London and Europe. Given her experience as a practicing barrister in the field of international business, Ms. Smith's appointment also contributes to the BVI International Finance Centre's ongoing strategy of promoting and marketing the Territory's finance sector to the outside world.
Ms. Smith joins the Government from the law firm of Conyers Dill and Pearman in the British Virgin Islands, where she worked as an associate attorney specialising in advising clients in multiple jurisdictions in commercial litigation and corporate law

Prior to this she held the position of associate attorney at O'Neal Webster O'Neal Fletcher Myers and Gordon, another legal firm in the British Virgin Islands.

Executive Director of the BVI International Affairs Unit Mrs. Lorna Smith said she is delighted that Ms. Dawn Smith has joined Government as Director of the BVI London Office. "She is a very competent and confident British Virgin Islander who will make this Territory proud," the executive director said. She added that Ms. Dawn Smith's background in liberal arts and her experience in the financial services industry means that she will not only effectively represent the BVI at the "political" level, but also in the field of international business.
"Her service on a variety of government boards and committees including the Education Advisory Board, the Court Review Board, the Board of Referees for Income Tax, the BVI Bar Association, and the Board of Immigration will mean that she can speak with added authority on behalf of the Government," Mrs. Lorna Smith noted.

Ms. Dawn Smith's academic qualifications include a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from Middlebury College in Vermont, USA; a bachelor's of law degree from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, Barbados; and a certificate in legal education from the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica. She is also a notary public of the British Virgin Islands.
